Mid-Year Pause: Life by Design vs Default

Author Steven Pressfield observes that we each have two lives:
the life we live, and the unlived life within.

Can you believe 2022 is already halfway over? I know... it snuck up!

A mere 6 months ago, you did something for New Year’s Eve, even if that was sitting at home in pajamas and going to bed early (like me!).

And it’s likely that you took even a few brief moments to consider what you wanted to experience this year. Perhaps you considered your fitness/wellness goals, your professional goals, travel goals — or perhaps things you wanted to experience with your family; and hopes, dreams, new habits, or even promises to yourself.

Now that we are here, I’m curious about you. How are YOU at this mid-year mark?

Is 2022 going like you hoped it would?

Are your goals/resolutions occurring as you desired?

Or have things not changed much at all?

My encouragement is to actually take pause right now to consider where you are and the status of your life. Take 30 seconds to reflect on this.

Whatever your answer is, it’s okay.

If your answer is that all your dreams are coming true and your year has shaped up to be even better than you could have possibly imagined, I commend you. That is absolutely worth celebrating. (And reply back to let me know if that's the case so I can celebrate you, too!)

And if your answer is that things are the same as December 31, that life looks pretty much like your default, that’s okay too. This is a No Judgement Zone.

Whatever the case is for you, taking stock in what has occurred, and especially in what you desire next, is significant to do. Getting accurate is key.

If you're game, here's an exercise that can support you.

STEP ONE:
If you go back and look at each month since the start of the year, and bullet point out the wins/losses, happenings, significant conversations, trips, etc, that will start to give you an outline. You might even be surprised with some of the things that took place that you already forgot about.

STEP TWO:
Reflect on your learnings in 2022 so far. What have you gotten from the last 6 months?

And what has gotten in the way of your goals, vision, resolutions (if anything)?

STEP THREE:
Then you can sit with the question: Given the remaining 6 months of the year, what do I want to see happen - personally and professionally? What do I hope for? What do I want to do with that time?

If you run this process, email me to let me know what your findings are. You living your unlived life really matters to me.
