Celebrate Preemptively!
Are you finding yourself in any sort of slump? Creatively? Energetically? Financially?
If you are, you’re not alone. Globally, there are all sorts of dynamics happening that are leaving people feeling heavy, sad, challenged, and even hopeless.
Many people in my world have lost their corporate jobs, received demotions, have had loved ones pass away or a child receive a diagnosis - the list goes on.
Personally, there have been some low lows for me as well. In fact, just last week I found myself in a downward spiral after six counts of fraud were found in my business account, I side swiped a new Tesla (the first time my car has touched another car in over 15 years), and a program I was really excited about sharing was met with literally no interest.
Oof. Ouch. Ugh.
It can feel really hard at times to face the facts of what happens in life. However, there are the Facts and there are our Feelings about the facts.
We can’t help the Facts of life, but we can work with our Feelings about it.
There are all sorts of processes and tools that you can use to work with your feelings, and one I personally love is: Celebrate Preemptively.
Celebrate the win before it happens.
Celebrate the relationship before you meet them.
Celebrate the raise at work before it happens.
Celebrate the yes to your art project before it’s submitted.
Celebrate the day before it’s in full swing.
Celebrate the robust yes to your biggest proposal to date.
This might sound corny, but there is something that heightens your energy when you yourself permission to act-as-though. (This is why people who do improv and theater tend to be so energetic.)
And when you think about the win before it happens, really indulge it. Really hype it up inside to be the most exciting, vibrant possible outcome. Feel the energy in your body as you imagine the amazing outcome. Imagine how over-the-top incredible it can be. Then, do something tangible to celebrate it in advance.
For me, when I was in the downward spiral last week, I paused and considered what new possibilities could be coming my way.
What amazing new client will say yes next? What incredible opportunities await? What sorts of beautiful experiences are just around the corner?
I felt myself start to open up… to feel more peace inside… to relax more.
I made the decision that I was going to go out to dinner at one of my favorite restaurants and order like I just got a big win. If I had a win, I wouldn’t care about the price of things and I’d order whatever I wanted. I got wine, ordered extra appetizers, the extra expensive main dish special with all the add-ons, dessert - the works. I felt freedom inside as though the win had already happened. I was smiling ear to ear to sign the bill. It truly felt like there was already a win and indulging it felt… good.
When you get a win, what do you do? Buy yourself flowers? Indulge in that big purchase as a reward? Take a day off? Take yourself out to eat?
And what’s ONE thing you would like to Celebrate Preemptively?
